Bali in 10 Days, Slowly: An Itinerary for Those Who Want to Truly Rest
Bali is often associated with activity: surfing, trekking, islands, diving. But there's another Bali — slow, contemplative, healing. This itinerary is for those who want to actually rest: turn off notifications, eat slowly, watch rice fields, and fall asleep before midnight.
Ten days is the right length for this rhythm. No strict schedule: if you want to lie in a hammock with a book in the morning, that's the right call. The itinerary is built around Ubud (5 days), Canggu (3 days), and a final stretch in Uluwatu (2 days).
Ubud is the spiritual heart of the island. It concentrates the best spas, yoga studios, healthy-eating cafes, and at the same time real Balinese life: morning offerings to the gods, the smell of incense, the sound of gamelan in the evening.
Relaxed budget: $700-1,200 per person for 10 days excluding flights. You can spend less — warungs with meals for $2 are everywhere. You can spend more — Balinese spas are worth their price.
Days 1-2: Ubud — Arrival and Immersion
Day 1
Arrival, transfer to Ubud (1.5-2 hours, IDR 300,000-400,000 / $20-27). Check into a guesthouse with rice field views — look on Jl. Bisma or Jl. Penestanan. We recommend Sari Organic or Komaneka Bisma for mid-budget.
First evening: dinner near your hotel, no excursions. Clear Cafe (Jl. Hanoman 8) — vegan and healthy food, fresh juices, a pleasant garden. IDR 80,000-150,000 ($5-10). Early bed.
Day 2
Morning — yoga. Yoga Barn (Jl. Raya Pengosekan) — one of Asia's best yoga studios. Morning classes start at 7:00. A single class is IDR 150,000-180,000. Schedule on their website or the board at the entrance.
After class — breakfast at the Yoga Barn cafe or Locavore TO GO (Jl. Dewi Sita) — one of Ubud's best breakfasts: eggs with Balinese spices, fresh-pressed juices.
Day: a slow walk along Campuhan Ridge Walk — a 9 km foot trail above the river valley. Morning mist in the valleys, green hills, silence. No entry fee. Trail starts at Gunung Lebah temple.
Evening: massage. Ubud is the world capital of traditional Balinese massage. Karsa Spa (Jl. Bisma 100) — one of the best. A 90-minute Balinese massage is IDR 350,000-500,000 ($23-33).
Days 3-4: Rice Fields and Temples
Day 3
The rice terraces of Tegallalang — 8 km north of Ubud. Go at 7-8:00, before the tourists arrive. Entry IDR 50,000. Paths between the fields, working farmers, coconuts straight from the tree. Cafe Kopi Desa overlooking the terraces — Balinese coffee and breakfast above the green steps.
After lunch — Pura Tirta Empul — 15 km from Ubud, a sacred spring. Tourists can join the ritual cleansing in the sacred pools. You'll need a sarong (IDR 100,000-150,000 rental or purchase). Entry IDR 50,000.
Evening: a walk through Ubud Art Market without buying — just looking. Or head to Bridges Restaurant above the Wos River — expensive (IDR 300,000-600,000 per dish), but the view is spellbinding at night.
Day 4
A day for spa treatments and a book. Fivelements Retreat or Komaneka Spa — Balinese spas with herbal wraps, flower baths, aromatherapy massage. A half-day program is IDR 800,000-1,500,000 ($53-100). It's pricey, but this is Bali.
Evening: Kecak Dance at Ubud Palace (every evening, IDR 100,000) or Legong Dance at ARMA Museum (Fridays, IDR 100,000). Balinese dances under the open sky in torchlight.
Day 5: East Bali — Quiet
Morning
A day trip to the east of the island. Sidemen Valley — a scenic valley in the shadow of Mount Agung, a non-touristy place where rice is still grown the old way. Go by bike or taxi via mountain switchbacks — about 1.5 hours from Ubud.
Breakfast in Sidemen — any roadside warung. Fresh nasi goreng, eggs, and coffee for IDR 30,000-50,000 ($2-3). The view from the window beats any five-star hotel.
Day
Walk through the Sidemen rice fields — free, just follow the dirt paths past the fields. Farmers smile and don't mind photos. Backdrop: the snow-capped peak of Mount Agung (3,031 m).
Have lunch at a family warung in the village — the hostesses cook what they eat themselves. Ayam goreng (fried chicken) with rice, noodles, sambal (spicy paste). IDR 25,000-40,000.
Evening
Back to Ubud by sunset. Evening on Campuhan Ridge — walk the trail in the last light. Or just sit in a cafe overlooking the rice fields — Room 4 Dessert (Jl. Raya Sanggingan) if you want haute-cuisine desserts.
Days 6-7: Canggu — Slow Coastal Rhythm
Day 6
Transfer from Ubud to Canggu — 1.5-2 hours. Another Bali: coffee shops with good specialty coffee, beach warungs, surfers, digital nomads. More relaxed than Seminyak.
Check-in. We recommend a guesthouse or villa with a pool on Jl. Batu Mejan or Jl. Pantai Berawa — quiet streets within walking distance of the beach. IDR 300,000-700,000 per night ($20-47).
Evening — get to know Canggu. Old Man's Bar (Batu Bolong Beach) — sunset with a Bintang beer (IDR 45,000-60,000) right above the surfers. Lively atmosphere without the fuss.
Day 7
Morning with no schedule. Brunch at KYND Community (Jl. Raya Seminyak 77) — a floral restaurant, rainbow bowls, matcha latte. An Instagrammable spot, but the food is actually good. IDR 150,000-250,000 ($10-17).
Day: Echo Beach (Pantai Echo) — Canggu's less-known beach. Cliffs, powerful waves, watching surfers — the best meditation. Warungs by the shore with coconut (IDR 25,000) and fish.
Evening: The Lawn (Jl. Pantai Batu Bolong 8) — a lawn restaurant by the shore. Cocktails, sunset, quiet music. Average bill IDR 250,000-400,000 ($17-27).
Day 8: Seminyak and Shopping
Morning
A slow morning in Canggu. After breakfast head to neighboring Seminyak — 15 minutes. This is Bali's shopping district: designer boutiques, concept stores, Balinese-made goods.
Main shopping streets: Jl. Seminyak and Jl. Oberoi (Kayu Aya). What to buy: linen clothing from Balinese designers (IDR 300,000-800,000), silver jewelry, handmade batik, cold-pressed coconut oil.
Day
Lunch at Sisterfields (Jl. Kayu Cendana 7, Seminyak) — a popular spot with good Australian coffee and brunch menu. Salted caramel pancakes, eggs benedict, acai bowls. IDR 150,000-250,000.
After lunch — Seminyak Beach. Long, not crowded on weekdays. Umbrella and lounger rental — IDR 100,000-150,000. Sunsets here are especially good — the sky turns crimson and orange.
Evening
Dinner at Sarong Restaurant (Jl. Petitenget 19X) — high-end Asian cuisine in a beautiful interior. Dinner with wine — IDR 500,000-800,000 ($33-53). Or on a budget, Warung Murah in the Seminyak alleys — rice with chicken and sambal for IDR 35,000.
Days 9-10: Uluwatu — Finale at the Cliffs
Day 9
Transfer to the Bukit Peninsula — 30-40 minutes from Seminyak. Another Bali: white cliffs above the blue ocean, secluded beaches in hidden coves.
Check into Alila Villas Uluwatu (luxury) or any guesthouse on Jl. Pantai Suluban. Suluban Beach (Blue Point) is only accessible at low tide — beautiful caves and arches in the cliffs.
Day: Bingin Beach — reached down steep stairs from the cliff (300 steps), worth it. A small secluded cove, surfers, warungs on the cliffs with views. Salmon with rice and coconut — IDR 80,000-120,000.
Evening: Sundays Beach Club (Uluwatu) — the most beautiful beach club in Bali. White coral beach, rocking chairs, live music. Minimum spend IDR 200,000-300,000.
Day 10
Last day. Morning: sunrise from the viewpoint above Padang Padang beach — silence, scarlet sky, surfing starts with first light.
Final massage at a local spa (IDR 200,000-300,000 — cheaper in Uluwatu than in Ubud). Farewell lunch at El Kabron (Jl. Pantai Cemongkak 9) — a Spanish restaurant on the cliff above the sea, the most beautiful views. IDR 300,000-500,000.
Transfer to the airport from Uluwatu — 30-40 minutes, IDR 150,000-200,000. Grab works.
